In this era of "social distancing" Chabad in S. Monica would like to join the community together on the special unity day of Lag Be'omer in an appropriate and fun way.
Lag Be'omer is the day of demise of Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai. He commanded his students to rejoice on this day because of the many teachings he taught them before his passing. It is also the time that a great plague killed 24,000 of Rabbi Akiva's students, but on the day of Lag Be'omer the plague stopped.
There are many customs on this day. One is to go outside and celebrate. Every year, Chabad in S. Monica hosts a community-wide picnic at the park with a bonfire.
This year, to keep everyone safe, but to still celebrate, we are going to be having a CAR PARADE. We would like to have as many people from the community as possible join.
Everyone will prepare by decorating their car with posters depicting different Mitzvos, or posters with messages encouraging acts of kindness during these times. (If you need posters to print out and color let us know, we will send you.) We will meet on 16th St between Colorado and Olympic where there is ample parking spaces to prepare for the parade. PLEASE DO NOT GET OUT OF YOUR CAR.
We will begin with a children's rally (12 pesukim) we will then follow the pre-planned route driving through S. Monica. The parade will end by Chabad House where you will be given a "picnic-in-a-bag".
YOU MUST REGISTER YOUR CAR & NUMBER OF PEOPLE IN YOUR CAR WHO WOULD LIKE A PICNIC BAG BELOW!
